Oral Contrast Instructions
- You will need to go by the X-Ray Department at WRMC to pick up one (1) bottle of contrast on day before your scan.
- NPO (nothing to eat or drink) after midnight. May take medications with small amount of water.
- Drink one (1) bottle of contrast one (1) hour before scheduled examination time. Drink slowly over one hour period.
- Notify technologist if you are a diabetic.
If you are scheduled for these exams after lunch time, do not eat or drink anything after 7:00 a.m. on day of exam. Drink bottle of contrast one hour prior to exam, slowly over course of one hour.
For any CT Scans, IVP’s, Special Procedures that involve intravenous contrast:
We must have a recent Creatinine (within 30 days) on patients over age 50, diabetic patients, and patients with known renal problems. Patient exams will be delayed or rescheduled if this is not provided. Please allow forty-five minutes prior to exam time if the patient is to have lab drawn at Wilkes Regional Medical Center and send them to the Lab first.
Patients who are taking the drug Glucophage (Metformin) should discontinue use of this medication forty-eight hours after their contrast study. The ordering physician may want to give them another medicine to take in the place of this.
