Laboratory and Pathology

The clinical laboratory of WRMC has a staff of 28 dedicated professionals certified as Medical Technologists, Medical Lab Technologists, Lab Assistants, Phlebotomists and two Pathologists.

The Laboratory is an automated, computerized, state-of-the-art facility that offers a full range of clinical services 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

The Laboratory was granted a two-year accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations in April 2002. The WRMC clinical laboratory received a grade of 94 and a two-year certificate from CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments- Public Law 100-578, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

There are over 1200 clinical tests available here. More than 350 different tests are performed in the lab as routine or on an urgent basis. Statistically, clinical laboratories provide 85% of the diagnostic information used by physicians for clinical diagnosis and our lab provides excellent quality testing to patients without a long wait to have blood drawn.

We use an automatic blood culture system that continuously monitors blood cultures for early determination of patients with sepsis, generating a cost savings over manual monitoring. Also new is the coagulation instrument that will reduce testing time and provide monitoring for the new Heparin therapies.
